Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
